Lord Narasimha : Perceive Anger Differently

Narasimha SwamyNarasimha Swamy’s nine perceptions of anger are clearly visible in His nine shrines at Ahobilam. Yes, depending on the situation and the nature of the people we interact with, we may get angry for various reasons. But Lord Narasimha helps us perceive our anger differently through His nine forms.

Through these three forms, Lord Narasimha symbolically says, “First rein in your anger through these practices.”

Malola Narasimha Swamy: Love Conquers Anger

Malola Narasimha SwamyMalola Narasimha Swamy has a Soumya Swaroop. Maha Lakshmi sits on his lap and embraces Him with her right hand. Malola Narasimha Swamy blesses us with bliss.

Malola Narasimha Swamy says, “Revere the love that flows into your life. For the sweetness of love can douse the flames of your fury. Share your thoughts and emotions with your loved ones. They help you perceive the situation from different perspectives and show you nuances of the situation that elude you.”

Yogananda Narasimha Swamy: Yoga Dispels Anger

Yoga Narasimha SwamyAfter killing Hiranyakashipu, Lord Narasimha transforms into Yogananda Narasimha Swamy and teaches Prahalada several yogic postures. Yogananda Narasimha Swamy blesses us with mental peace and tranquillity.

Yogananda Narasimha Swamy says, “Practise yoga. Regularly. Yoga helps you strike a balance between your inner and outer worlds. And when you introspect – even a wee bit – you will try to understand others instead of judging and condemning them.”

Chatra Vata Narasimha Swamy: Channelize Anger Through Art

Chatra Vata Narasimha SwamyHaha and Huhu, two Gandharvas sing the praises of Chatra Vata Narasimha Swamy, who is enshrined under a banyan (Vata) tree. Lord Chatra Vata Narasimha blesses us with proficiency in music and fine arts.

Chatra Vata Narasimha Swamy says, “Channelize the negative energy of your rage into creating some form of art. When you are engrossed in the intricacies of your art, you will gain the vision to observe the patterns of your thinking. And as you rectify and perfect your art, you will unknowingly end up correcting your flawed thoughts and improving the quality of your life too.”

Through these three forms, Lord Narasimha symbolically says, “Delve inwards to manage your anger.”

Bhargava Narasimha Swamy: Deal With Unfairness Through Meditation

Bhargava Narasimha SwamyRama worships Bhargava Narasimha Swamy near a sacred pond called Bhargava Teertha when he is searching for Sita. Some say Lord Bhargava Narasimha fulfilled the wishes of rishi Bhargava when he performed a penance near a sacred pond called Akshaya Teertha. Bhargava Narasimha Swamy blesses us with benevolence and success.

Lord Bhargava Narasimha says, “Like Rama, live your life with awareness. Meditate. Choose your actions wisely instead of succumbing to impulsive anger. Know that you are merely living through one of your many lives. And until you balance the karma of your previous lives, Moksha will elude you. So, focus on creating a good karmic account in your life.”

Karanja Narasimha Swamy: Understand Anger Through Spirituality

Karanja Narasimha SwamyWe call this aspect of lord Narasimha as Karanja Narasimha Swamy because we have enshrined Him under a Karanja tree. Rishi Kapila performs a penance in this shrine to cleanse himself of rishi Durvasa’s curse and regain his knowledge and wisdom. Lord Karanja Narasimha blesses us with spiritual knowledge and wisdom.

Some say Hanuman once performed penance here to do the darshan of Rama. So, Karanja Narasimha Swamy resembles Rama, holds a bow and arrow in his hands and Ananta creates an umbrella over him.

Lord Karanja Narasimha says, “Read the scriptures. Listen to the words of wisdom from scholars. Interpret them correctly. Apply these spiritual nuances in your life. For spirituality strengthens your faith in Me, helps you fight your fears and blesses you with the much-needed clarity. Know that I am doing My work. In My own way. In your life too. At all times.”

Pavana Narasimha Swamy: Visit Holy Places To Pacify Anger

Pavana Narasimha SwamySince we have enshrined this aspect of Narasimha Swamy on the banks of the river Pavana, we call Him Pavana Narasimha Swamy. We can cleanse ourselves of our past and present karmas by worshipping Lord Pavana Narasimha.

Pavana Narasimha Swamy says, “If spiritual practices are beyond your limited understanding of a higher-order – do the next best thing. Take a dip in a holy river. Go on a pilgrimage. Spend time with nature. Observe Prakriti’s selfless service to mankind. And focus on creating as much good karma as you can. That’s the least you can do for yourself. Remember – you need to do your bit too to improve the quality of your life.”

Through these three forms, Lord Narasimha symbolically says, “Don’t foolishly assume you can control everything in your life. Listen to your conscience. At all times. For I speak to you in many ways. Then just let go. Completely. And allow Me to play My part in your life.”

Ugra Narasimha Swamy: Righteous Anger Reaffirms Faith

Ugra Narasimha Swamy The Ugra Narasimha Swamy temple is the main temple of Ahobilam. Ugra Narasimha Swamy manifested here in his most fierce aspect. And Ugra Narasimha Swamy wipes out all our fears from our hearts and enables us to live harmonious lives.

Lord Ugra Narasimha says, “Nurture your faith. Religiously. For where there is faith – there is no room for fear. At all. Don’t allow anyone or any situation to replace your faith in me with fear. For I love you as much as you love me. And I will never let you down. I will bail you out of your crisis. In my own way. At the right time and place. Through anger if necessary.”

Varaha Narasimha Swamy: Protect Those Who Serve Selflessly

Varaha Narasimha SwamyThe ferocious form of Lord Narasimha, known as  Varaha Narasimha Swamy, has the face of  Varaha and his consort Bhoodevi sits on his lap. Lord Varaha Narasimha blesses us with the prowess to succeed in our chosen path.

Lord Varaha Narasimha says, “Serve others selflessly. For selfless service is an invaluable strength. The ignorant may perceive your selfless service as passivity. And may mock you for being a weakling. But don’t let that deter you from your path. For, I, Varaha Narasimha Swamy manifest especially to protect people like Bhudevi and you who serve me quietly and selflessly.”

Jwala Narasimha Swamy: Unbridled Fury to Correct Sinful Actions

Jwala Narasimha SwamyJwala Narasimha Swamy becomes fiercely angry with Hiranyakashipu for torturing his devotee, Prahalada. He sits on the threshold, holds Hiranyakashipu on his lap and rips his body apart with his nails. Lord Jwala Narasimha blesses us with a life of glory and grants us Moksha.

Jwala Narasimha Swamy says, “Yes, I do manifest as Jwala Narasimha Swamy in your life when the ultimate reality continues to elude others. And when they misuse my blessings to ill-treat you, I, Jwala Narasimha Swamy will express myself through your rage.

Yes, things will take an ugly turn initially. But in time, you will realize that the anger I expressed through you was worth the harmony I created in everyone’s lives.

But don’t let your faith in Me make you proud. Remember – there is a higher-order too. Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu have lived through only a part of their curse. They have two more mortal lives to live through before they regain their rightful place as my Dwarapals.

Like them, you too are living through only one of your myriad lives. So, focus on doing your karma intelligently and aspire for Moksha. At all times. For I grant Moksha in my own way only to those who truly deserve it.”

Lord Narasimha’s profound insights are worth pondering over. Let’s do our best to implement these insights into our lives.
