A Quiet Afternoon, A Soft Ball Of Yarn And A Lovely Crochet Design In My Hands…
Namaste! I am Veena, an ordinary homemaker like any other woman. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Home-Science. I love my home and hearth and spend the better part of the day in maintaining it properly.
I first learnt the art of crocheting from my Ma. She is an artist par excellence. She was the one who patiently taught me how to design beautiful things when I was a young girl. I did not realize that I would end up pursuing this art so zealously in my life later on.
I rediscovered my passion for crochet during the empty-nest phase of my life. Now, I work on my crochet things in the afternoons when I have some time to myself. At first, I made edgings for handkerchiefs, kurtis etc. But slowly I have moved on to making other useful items like coasters, purses of different sizes, pouches which can be used for mobiles or for gifting things. I feel very satisfied when I see these small lovely things shaping up slowly in my hands.
I also try to make new things whenever I can. I watch videos on You Tube and learn new stitches and designs. I work with different kinds of yarn. I love polyester yarn for its sheen and texture. But I love cotton yarn too because of its closeness to nature. My top priority is to deliver creations with a neat finishing.
I have the total support of my family and the grace of a Higher force. So I feel glad when I do something useful during the afternoons. I always thought that was all there was to my craft and felt nothing much would ever come out of it.
Until one fine day, my sister decided to set up her own blog. Initially I was happy to get a platform to showcase my handiwork in the virtual world. But she was overwhelmed by the technical aspects of running the blog. So she literally bullied me into taking care of the handicraft section of the blog. We did struggle during the initial phase but quickly realized that we were catering to the likes of a diverse audience.
Now we just complement each other. I take care of the handicrafts section of the blog. I talk to other women like me who craft beautiful things with their hands in their spare time. It’s always such a pleasure to see their lovely handiwork. I like interacting with them and discussing their craft with them. I compile their details, sort out their pictures and send them to my sister. She takes care of the writing and technical details of the blog. Ours is a free platform. We showcase all kinds of handicrafts. We feel happy when others get their share of limelight in the virtual world. Do have a look at our galleries. We will be happy if something catches your eye!
